Economic inequality in the UK

News
27 January 2010

The National Equality Panel today (27 January) published a major report: An Anatomy of Economic Inequality in the UK.

The Panel sets out evidence on the relationships between inequalities in people’s economic outcomes – such as earnings, income and wealth – and their characteristics and circumstances – such as gender, age, ethnicity – and the ways in which who you are affect the resources and opportunities available to you.

The report addresses questions such as how far up or down do people from different backgrounds typically come in the distributions of earnings, income or wealth? It draws on many sources of information, including Millennium Cohort Study, the National Child Development Study and 1970 British Cohort Study.

The report is available at: www.equalities.gov.uk/national_equality_panel/publications.aspx
