This special issue focuses on the importance of the collection of biomedical data as part of longitudinal studies.

This special issue focuses on the importance of the collection of biomedical data as part of longitudinal studies. Peter Elias, ESRC Strategic Adviser (Data resources), introduces the issue with an outline of the value of biomedical data resources. David Strachan describes the collection of DNA from members of the 1958 birth cohort. Lucy Griffiths and Summer Hawkins describe research based on the Millennium Cohort Study, linking measurements on infant growth to maternal socio-economic status and educational qualifications. Suzanne Bartington’s article discusses the procedures that were adopted for collecting oral fluids from members of the Millennium Cohort Study.
