Young people who are the first in their family to go to university are less likely to attend an elite institution and are more likely to drop out than those with graduate parents, according to new research led by the UCL Centre for Longitudinal Studies.
The Age 10 Sweep included measures of height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, pulse, vision and hearing. Most of these measures were then repeated at age 16 and several were repeated in the Age 46 Sweep. This allows researchers to study trajectories of health from childhood into adulthood and how these are affected by other circumstances and behaviours throughout life.
The number of hours worked in Britain dropped significantly in lockdown, with mothers most likely to sacrifice work for home schooling and developmental play, according to new research from the UCL Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS).

Celebrating 50 years of the 1970 British Cohort Study – The 1970 British Cohort Study (BCS70) began life as the British Births Survey (BBS) and aimed to collect information about all babies born in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland during a single week in April 1970. More than 17,000 babies were included in the survey.
