News
5 September 2008

Prof Robert Michael arrived on September 1, and will be staying at CLS until September 15.

Professor Robert Michael has returned to CLS for the second year of his appointment as a World Scholar. In the U.S. Bob teaches at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy Studies and is the Project Director for the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth Program at NORC.

He has been involved with the NCDS since the late-1980s and has recently used the Children of the NCDS data set to research what he calls “family caring,” the efforts parents make in behalf of developing their children’s cognitive skills. Bob is also involved with the new U.S. birth cohort data known as the National Children’s Survey, a prospective study of a planned 100,000 births.

While at CLS through mid-December, Bob is working on summarizing some of the key findings from publications based on the NLSY97 data set, an effort to help translate social scientific findings into public discourse.
