Prof Alissa Goodman has been appointed as Principal Investigator of the 1958 National Child Development Study and Professor of Economics in the IOE’s Department of Quantitative Social Science.

Alissa is currently Deputy Director of Life Study and Professor of Economics at UCL. IOE and UCL see this as an opportunity to enhance working relationships across the two institutions, both of which are committed to joint cohort work in the future.

Professor Jane Elliott, Director of the Centre for Longitudinal Studies, said, “We are delighted that Professor Goodman is joining the team at CLS to lead the 1958 British Birth cohort study. She will play a major role in designing the age-sixty sweep of this well-established study, and ensuring that it continues to be a valuable multi-disciplinary resource for the wider research community.”

Professor Goodman said “I’m incredibly honoured to be appointed as Principal Investigator for the 1958 Cohort Study.  I’m looking forward to steering this important study to even greater strengths, both in terms of informing policy and its scientific impact.  I am very grateful to UCL for the time I have spent as Deputy Director for Life Study, and I am very much looking forward to continuing close working and co-operation between the cohorts in the future.”

Professor Graham Hart, Dean of the UCL Faculty of Population Health Sciences, said, “This is an exciting opportunity for Professor Goodman to lead this well established cohort study into its next phase.  We look forward to the opportunity that Alissa’s appointment will create for increased collaboration between UCL and IOE.”

Professor Goodman will be taking up her post in April 2013.
