1970 British Cohort Study Age 5 Survey – Understanding mothers

To celebrate 50 years of the 1970 British Cohort Study over the next 12 months we’ll be highlighting interesting features of the survey design, delving deeper into the questionnaires and pulling out descriptive statistics from the data.

During the Age 5 Sweep, mothers were asked about maternal depression and their child’s behaviour. The self-completion questionnaire included 43 questions to find out mums’ views on various topics, including child-rearing, maternal employment, television viewing and hospital visits.
