The second sweep of GNE plans to have a mixed-mode design. There will be an interviewer visit focused on collecting high-quality data from the child, specifically direct assessments of cognitive development using standardised measures and anthropometry (height, weight and body fat). There will also be a push-to-web approach for parents to complete a questionnaire. Saliva samples for genetic research will also be collected from the child and their biological parents.
Key scientific themes will continue from the first sweep, with the addition of the role of genetics in children’s health and development.
A scientific consultation on the content of the age 3 questionnaire will take place at the end of 2027/early 2028.
